Tainted LED Gauge Board installation (NO NEEDLE VERSION) 91-95 Acura Legend

the first thing that you want to do you want to go ahead and remove your gauge cluster from the vehicle all right once you remove it and then go ahead and flip it to the back side and here you’ll see there are 12 screws that need to be removed three here three here three here and three here we’re going to go ahead and remove those screws so once you remove all 12 screws from the back of the gauge cluster you’re gonna go ahead and remove the four light bulb holders so just gonna have to kind of clockwise twist and also remove this wire just unclips from the holder here okay once you do that you’re gonna turn the gauge cluster over that and you’re gonna want to remove the plastic shell that’s on the gauge cluster so in order to do that on this particular one you’re gonna go ahead there’s seven tabs that need to be pressed in order to release the cover okay four of them are gonna be located on the bottom and then to our three on the top okay so just go ahead and press those and it should come right off okay sit there son while you’re at it if you have a Sharkey what you want to do is want to go ahead and so hopefully to see this man okay so you see the top of this this board here there’s a solder point right on the top here okay that top solder point trace that wire okay so I’ll trace that wire on down you get to the end of your plug go ahead and mark it with the plus sign man okay that’s going to indicate that you’re positive okay go ahead at this point if you don’t wish to change the color you’re gonna continue with this tutorial all right so now that you’ve got the gage faces out if you’re going to just install the boards without the needle board colors what you’re gonna want to do is you’re going to want to take off the diffuser from the back of the gauge face okay the method that I use to do that with is with acetone and with some paper towels it’s really simple to take these on the diffusers off and I’ll show you what they look like on the back in a second okay the reason why I use acetone it’s because acetone it dries extremely quickly if you ever used it before it’ll dry almost instantly when you get it in the air okay I’m not talking about using acetone that is a no polish remover or acetone that is or any other type of acetone other than the pure type which comes in a camp looks just like this or something similar similar brand you can pick this up at a hardware store some hobby shops

will have it as well also I wouldn’t recommend using alcohol rubbing alcohol for this method only because it stays as a liquid a lot longer than normal acetone the wood the same thing with nail polish remover it’ll stay a liquid a lot longer than this acetone here will so go pick up some of this two type of acetone and you’ll be fine for this type of one removing of the diffusers now if you turn your gage face over you’ll see what that diffuser actually looks like the diffuser is this these black dots that line the back of the board okay those those dots block the amount of light that are that can come out so by taking off those dots you’re actually letting allowing more light to shine through the board normally okay you do not have to remove the needles for this method that I’m going to show you it’s very simple and hopefully it’s easy enough for everybody to kind of understand the important part is not to get any type of acetone on the face of the board okay if you do get asked on the face of this board it will eat away the paint okay I’m as you can see the cluster face of the cluster kind of masked off part of the board so it’s okay if you do have an accent on that very edges of this board but nothing on the inside of the face okay you don’t have to remove this right now but it’s not a bad idea if you did it’s just gonna give you more room to work with so I’m gonna go ahead and remove these three screws on the back of this saw about this board here very simple with a little book take out these three screws I like to just loosen them up all right so what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna take a paper towel first foremost okay and I’m going to fold it in half and I’m just going to place this on the table just like so so that I don’t scratch up the face or anything like that you want to protect the face now I’m gonna take another paper towel okay and I’m just gonna fold it into quarters okay so I’ll just fold it up twice you want to use a decent type of paper towel shop towels are really nice too either one of those will work but I’m just gonna use this tight for now okay and then I’m going to take my acetone okay so I’m just take my acetone here and I’m just gonna get some thumbs up on the towel okay try to pour it away from the actual face so that you don’t end up splashing it and I did is you want to get this towel nice and wet you don’t want to get it too wet or it’s soaking and it’ll it’s gonna drip out okay so if you can see I’m getting a stone of my fingers now but it dries up almost instantly okay so you want to get this wet enough so that’s not dripping but um just make sure that it’s got some time to dry out a little bit okay now you’re gonna take your face you’re gonna lift it up just a little bit just like that okay and you can squeeze this towel in between those cracks there like this see and you get it in between there just like so and then you smush it and swipe it out and by doing that it actually eats away that paint really quickly okay and you’re not getting any on your face and you’re gonna repeat that process over and over again all around the edge of the board okay do that enough times you’ll have all of that diffuser off of that face and you will never have to take off these needles so just make sure your hands are dry before you put touch the board again squeeze it pull okay they have to do this a couple times there’s

no telling you just got to keep going at it until all that diffuser is gone and it shouldn’t take long at all it takes me typically less than five minutes to do a bore might take you longer if you’re taking your time there’s no problem taking your time you know you want to make sure it’s done rightly so that you don’t end up running the gauge face of your of your cluster just squeezing it you start to notice that the pain is accumulating on the the towel okay and that’s a good thing because you want to get as much of that paint off as possible but it also decreases the amount of paint that you can pull up so what I like to do is I like to just look I get it looking kind of grayish like that like black like to just flip it upside down just like that so that I can use as much of it as possible I might wet it again just enough so I adapt again there’s some more action in there let it dry like I said you don’t want it so wet that is dripping like if it’s dripping when you squeeze it that’s too much but this ain’t gonna drip because it dries really quickly so I’m just gonna keep separating the board the toilet putting it in between and there’s lightning and you can do the entire back like this you can do with this entire back of this gage face and you can literally take off all of this white if you if you were to leave this one if you really leave this boar connect it to this plastic here while there’s still a stone underneath it it’s gonna kind of start to eat away at the at the plastic which is it like it’s not a bad thing but something that you don’t want to happen because if it does then it’s gonna be harder to pry it apart at some point so just make sure that you kind of letting it air out as you’re doing this process you allowing that the plastic portion of that faced air out it’s gonna let it dry so the two pieces of plastic don’t stick together this stuff is pretty strong so so don’t let it get too wet our too old that it just starts to fall apart just keep replacing okay another way that I’ve seen it done is you can actually take a piece of it if you got like some tools you can pry these open a little bit and then take a piece of that napkin with the acetone and kind of just swivel around one thing I don’t really recommend is the use of my q-tips I know a lot of people like to use the q-tips for this kind of thing I don’t like to use it for one reason and that’s because q-tips will hold a lot of liquid in it I don’t know if you’ve ever stuck a q-tip and some alcohol or stuck a q-tip and perhaps some liquid of any type but you pull that q-tip out and it’s dripping it’s soaking wet and all that’s gonna end up doing is seeping out the sides and that’s what you want to prevent by using this napkin method you’re kind of allowing that extra fluid to kind of go and it’s got some capillary refill action so it’s gonna flow through that napkin before it starts to drip out the sides of the of the board and that’s really what you want to eliminate the accidental exposure of anything okay so you just want to be diligent with this continue to the other side so I’m gonna stop talking because I think you guys get the idea but just uh watch good work and I’ll get this whole thing taken care of all right well there you have it I just

did this whole board is now looking nice and clean pretty much all of the board is clean on the back I leave some spots I mean it’s not gonna really make that much of a difference you might see a little bit of lighter on this circle on this zero the beauty about this method is you can go and you can clean it up as much as you want so you can do you can you know just do the black on there get the dots off the diffusers or you can go ahead and you can go crazy on and get all of it off get all that white off I mean it’s possible to do either/or I met something that you might help you a little bit is um you can’t really see it on this camera but under there there’s a piece of sticky tape it’s like a double sided tape on there it’s from the factory you can go ahead and get like a credit card or something and kind of squeeze it between there and and separate that and that don’t let this board move freely and it won’t allow you to you won’t you won’t be able to take the board off because there’s a needle here but you will be able to you know move it up further away from the plastic portion and I’m separated and you can really get in there and get all of that white part off okay like I said I really like this method because of the fact that it you don’t have to take the needle off and it doesn’t mess with the calibration at all and you’ve just cleaned this board up so the light will shine through and everything’s exactly how you want this board is ready to go so now you can go ahead and do the other one I’m I would recommend doing all four boards on this cluster they are usage on them you can do where you can just do the two first on the two main ones the RPM and the speedometer and get those cleaned up and everything and I mean the board looks like it’s never been touched grab your packaging open it up and you should have two fours you’re right bored just gonna go on the right side of your gauge cluster and your left for the left side the installation for these very simple they don’t require you to do anything other than take out the three screws on the back of the speedometer okay so you’re gonna grab your speedometer board flip it over and there’s three screws here go ahead and move those okay once you have the three screws taken out of the back of the speedometer board they’re gonna go ahead and remove this fit I’m loading board ensuring that she taking note of

the orientation of that board set that aside and go ahead and install your speedometer board backwards right on top of it just like that okay there have been the contacts for the wires so that perpendicular with the board I’m sure not to bend the contacts back and forth too many times I just get in the metal okay now go ahead and grab your speedometer before the game and insert that back into place and then hand tighten the screws the three screws in I say hand tighten because it’s very easy to break the contacts that are inside of the needle calibration so just make sure you do not over tighten them so hand tighten these three screws in you don’t have to twist them more to tight there’s nothing big okay once that is done go ahead and insert it through the hole here top insert the connector through the hole and go ahead and insert this in point here the bottom and under the two metal prongs that go to your milage clock set the lender go ahead slide on your your LEDs for the now you’re just going to go ahead and start engaging and that portion is complete next is the RPM gauge RPM gauge is a little simpler if you flip to the back it also has three screws if you want to move those groups you can in the same fashion that you did the speedometer I don’t want to unscrew these screws it’s very easy to slip these board on without unscrewing these screws all you have to do is take the board have a 90 degree angle and slide it over and then twist it like so go right in place then go ahead and Bend back your contact points now on this board there is a accessory led to help look at some of the lighting okay there’s two different types of boards for this car if you have a TCS system for your vehicle which is a 94 to 95 this led can be placed directly under mileage do not have the TCS and this will be placed further up to help illuminate that thousand rpm a minute indicator here so what you do is your gonna be sure first that your contact is through the hole then gently slide the end piece just like before slide that in piece under the one palm on the knowledge talk here at this point if you want to use a pin

pencil screwdriver some type of tool to kind of give me that led further back you can this is just to place the LED where you want it to get the best light and a piece of double-sided tape it’s a good idea if you want to stick down but the wire is tough enough so that it sticks right down and then in the back here just give that wire nice little light tuck kind of seek the board and it spot properly and then take the tenth gauge board go ahead and police press that down make sure it’s nice and snug that’s it go ahead and place the now if you have some marks on your board that you want to clean up go ahead get a napkin or get some kind of soft cloth and just go ahead and wipe off the fingerprints okay don’t use any type of abrasive chemicals don’t use alcohol the alcohol will eat through the the paint layer on the board okay just use a dry cloth to just come on okay now go ahead replace your cluster face please click that right down on there you hear a click when you push it down okay now I’ll just go ahead and flip it over and this is what you should see you should see your two wires hanging out here in the back okay at this point you can go ahead and you can install your screws back into the board okay a side note too to make sure for these two in ones with a 3m of the three screws screw here through here screw here you want to tighten those very very light do not over tighten these okay the force behind it or if you have to twist it a little hard don’t go anymore because you will break the contacts in those just like you can’t one little larger boards maybe take out those three screws there okay so just remember to tighten these very lightly it’ll need to be tight they just need to make contact okay so once you have all 12 screws back into the back of your gauge cluster it’s time to go ahead and connect the plugs so take out your old boats you don’t need them anymore take out all the voids and you’re gonna go ahead and put the two holders back in with top the bolts like I said you don’t need them if you want to put bulbs in there that’s up to you but you’re not gonna make any difference now here’s very important that you paint take you to this part on these wires on these contacts there is a red wire and a black wire okay when you install the contact that belongs to the that’s

attached to the wire top you’re gonna go ahead and take that plus sign that sheet that you marked on there and you’re gonna line that up with the red line okay sign of war that’s how you hook that one and then you push it in ensuring that the plus sign is on the top okay so there you can see okay plus sign is on top so sure is that the red wire is on top that’s the positive wire and the same thing for this one just ensure that maybe twisted on the red wire on top on top : twisted it and that’s it the gauge cluster its goods bill is fully operational you have not messed with the needles and have not changed any of the calibration and you should be able to plug it right into your car and it’s all good to go you
